Annual General Meeting – May 11, at 1 pm, followed by a showing of the movie
The Snow Goose”. The focus of the movie is the retreat from Dunkirk, which
happened 85 years ago from May 26 to June 4. “The Snow Goose” is a very
moving story based on the book by Paul Gallico, it is not a typical war movie.

Anzac Week Museum Open Times
At Farrington House, the Birkenhead Heritage Society Museum, 44 Mahara Avenue,
Birkenhead.

On April 25 Farrington House will be open in the morning for visitors
following on from the ANZAC parade. -
On April 27 Farrington House will be open from 2-4 pm for the usual fourth
Sunday opening. -
World War 1 memorabilia will be on display on all of these dates.

At Farrington House, the Birkenhead Heritage Society Museum, 44 Mahara Avenue,
Birkenhead.
On Sunday, April 13, starting at 1 PM at Farrington House, the speaker at our
monthly meeting will be Leonie Freeman. Leonie will share with us
the experiences of her great-uncle and grandfather during World War I.
This talk will help us remember what the war was like for ordinary New Zealanders
caught up in the war. Leonie will also discuss how she used primary resources
such as photos, letters, etc, to piece together the wartime experiences of her relatives.

This is to remind everyone that we have David Verran, North Shore Historian
speaking at our Members' meeting Sunday, 9 March 2025, starting at 1 PM.
David's topic is Northcote "The History of Northcote from 1900 to 1920".
Some may recall David's popular talk in 2024 when he spoke on the 'Northcote Map'
on display at the BHS Museum. David's forthcoming talk will provide further
heritage insights and interesting facts on the Northcote area.

Sunday 9 February - The Birkenhead Drill
At Farrington House, the Birkenhead Heritage Society Museum, 44 Mahara Avenue,
Birkenhead.
​
Brian Potter, BHS committee member and local historian, will present a talk on
“The Birkenhead Drill.” The SS Birkenhead sank off the coast of South Africa
on February 26, 1852. Along with soldiers and sailors, women and children were
passengers. Brian will be telling us about what happened during the ship's sinking
and the long-term implications of these actions. There is a direct connection
between the survivors of this shipwreck and the survivors of the Titanic.
